The front porch and deck at 3355 W 43rd St in Cleveland, Ohio had seen better days. The porch was sagging, the two-story deck was deteriorated beyond repair, and the staircase needed to be completely rebuilt. Homeowner Andy Shiaw called Rent Ready Constructions in August 2025, and we delivered a fully rebuilt exterior structure — down to the footings.

The Problem
The front porch was sagging — failed footings, damaged beams, and rot throughout. The two-story deck was in even worse shape: rotted framing, deteriorated decking boards, unsafe railings, and a staircase that couldn't be saved. Neither structure was safe for daily use.
In Cleveland, a rotted deck or failing porch isn't just an eyesore — it's a liability. Andy needed both fixed completely, with the proper permits, structural engineering approach, and a finish that would last.
How We Fixed It
Front Porch Structural Repair — Demo, New Beams & Footings
The porch decking and finish materials were removed to expose the substructure. Deteriorated support beams, joists, and columns were replaced with pressure-treated lumber. New concrete footings were poured where existing ones had failed or settled. The porch was then re-decked with matching materials, railings reattached, and trim replaced. New components were painted to match.
Two-Story Deck Rebuild — Footings, Framing & Staircase
The entire deteriorated two-story deck and stair assembly was demolished and removed. New 12" concrete piers were poured at 42" below grade (frost depth). 6x6 pressure-treated posts were installed with proper bases. Double 2x10 beams, 2x10 PT joists at 16" on center, and a properly fastened ledger board with lateral load connectors were installed. A new 3' wide staircase with 14 risers, 10" treads, and a concrete landing pad was built. All framing was done to City of Cleveland code.

5/4x6 Decking, 42" Guardrails & Painted Finish
5/4x6 pressure-treated decking boards were installed with proper gapping. 42" guardrails with balusters spaced under 4" apart were installed for code compliance. After rough carpentry was complete, all surfaces were sanded, primed, and painted with two coats of exterior-grade protective paint. The property was left broom-clean, and the project passed city inspection.
The Result
3355 W 43rd St now has a solid, code-compliant front porch and a brand-new two-story deck with a proper staircase. New footings, new framing, new decking, new railings — all built to last and finished clean.
